Jennifer Livingston, a news anchor in La Crosse, Wisconsin, received this email from a male viewer:
It’s unusual that I see your morning show, but I did so for a very short time today. I was surprised indeed to witness that your physical condition hasn’t improved for many years.
Surely you don’t consider yourself a suitable example for this community’s young people, girls in particular. Obesity is one of the worst choices a person can make and one of the most dangerous habits to maintain. I leave you this note hoping that you’ll reconsider your responsibility as a local public personality to present and promote a healthy lifestyle.
The video above is her response to the email. It’s beautiful.
I talked to a Democratic fundraiser on Friday, before we knew that the pick was going to happen Saturday morning, and I was teasing him about how much more money Republicans are raising this year. And he said, “Yeah, basically our plan at this point is to pray for Mitt Romney to pick Paul Ryan, and then any money that we do have we’re going to spend on a margarita machine.

Unger adopted Schoep when he was a puppy, but a vet recently explained that the aging dog had severe arthritis that made it too painful for him to sleep. To ease his pain, Unger began taking Schoep to the lake, allowing the water to lull the dog to sleep. Unger now does this nightly.
Unger also credits Schoep with saving his life:
The breakup with his fianceé caused Unger to enter a depression. One night, he said, he went to a breakwater in Lake Michigan off Milwaukee with thoughts of suicide.
“To be honest with you, I don’t think I’d be here if I didn’t have Schoep with me (that night). He just snapped me out of it. I don’t know how to explain it. He just snapped me out of it. … I just want to do whatever I can for this dog because he basically saved my ass.”
Because if you put [yourself] in his position … what’s he supposed to think? That he finds his allies to be a bunch of crackpots? Does that help the conservative movement? I mean, what would you do if you were Roberts? All the sudden you find out that the people you thought were your friends have turned against you, they despise you, they mistreat you, they leak to the press. What do you do? Do you become more conservative? Or do you say, ‘What am I doing with this crowd of lunatics?’ Right? Maybe you have to re-examine your position.
