Forbes: 15 U.S. Cities’ Emerging Downtowns

One of the enduring myths of legislation designed to bring ‘right-to-work’ laws to the states is the notion that these laws actually have something to do with the right to work.

The article above is a great primer in so-called right-to-work laws.

If you really care about creating jobs, evidence suggests you should vote for the Democratic candidate. But as we saw when America went to war in Iraq, the Republican pyramid has a habit of fixing the facts to fit its policy.

The law—which has now been upheld by the Supreme Court—says that you are legally obliged to purchase health insurance—just as we are all legally obligated to follow the traffic rules and regulations. And while you may vehemently disagree with the wisdom of Obamacare and those responsible for passing it, it is the law because, in the judgment of the majority of Congress and the President, it was in the public interest to make this the law. Welcome to America where law is made by a majority of Congress and the Presidential signature.

Tough love from Rick Ungar in his Forbes column, but this is important to think about because the election is only 7 weeks away.

In an election that promises to be very close, using such remarkably poor judgment at this stage of the game—when the union has so much to gain from the Governor’s defeat— can only benefit Walker’s effort to remain in office.

Of the $31.6 million from the national mortgage settlement that is allocated directly to the state of Wisconsin, Walker will use $25.6 of it for “budget repair.”  Sorry, homeowners.

Notably, Walker rejected $810 million in federal funding for high speed rail and $38 million for implementing health reforms, but he apparently has no problem taking this money.

In celebration of the one-year anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, Wisconsin GOP Senator Ron Johnson has taken to the op-ed page of the Wall Street Journal to reinvigorate the misinformation campaign against health care reform as he continues to press the death panel narrative.

The Wisconsin Governor’s desire to be at the forefront of his perceived GOP revolution may not only have doomed the anti-union effort, but it may forever label him has the man who gave the Democrats the gift that keeps on giving: the return of the union rank and file into the arms of the Democratic Party.
