Wisconsin, the great Badger State, where our champion Green Bay Packers have never won a Super Bowl without a Democrat in the White House, where our Iron Brigade fought so all men and women could be free, where Lady Forward guards our Capitol to remind us we will always go forward and not back, and Wisconsin — home of our next great senator, Tammy Baldwin. We proudly cast all 103 of our votes for President Barack Obama!
--Mike Tate, Chairman of the Wisconsin Democratic Party, during roll call at the DNC.
Scott Walker has spent his time in office grabbing political power and catering to corporate interests, not fighting for the middle class. Because of his actions, Scott Walker has rendered himself vulnerable to the one tool left for Wisconsin to hold him accountable — his recall.
--Mike Tate, Chair the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. Tate will be on the Ed Schultz Show tonight to talk about the Democratic Party of Wisconsin’s decision to throw its weight behind the effort to recall Scott Walker.
As the people of Wisconsin stand vigil on the eve of historic recall elections, Scott Walker has gone missing. He is not out campaigning with the Republican senators who slavishly followed him and supported his agenda. He does not even appear in their campaign literature or basic material… It seems that having finally gotten what he wanted, an election about him, Scott Walker has suspending his self-regard in a moment of expediency and has come to the realization that he’s, well, toxic.
--Wisconsin Democratic Party Chairman Mike Tate, on Gov. Walker’s noticeable absence from the campaign events for Republicans facing recall tomorrow. (via quickhits)
We will not stand down — and next year, we will recall Scott Walker from office. We will begin to repair the damage done to this state and we will begin a new with a Democratic Governor who will fight for our children, who will fight for our families, our teachers and our firefighters. We will fight for the people — not the powerful.
--Wisconsin Democratic Party chairman Mike Tate, making it official. (via quickhits)
This ghastly voter suppression legislation saves no money, creates no jobs, expands no rights, fixes no problems and makes no sense. In the past, Wisconsin led the way in ensuring the fullest participation in democracy. Now, in a move that will reek through history as the baldest of political grabs, Wisconsin shamefully leads the way in abridging democratic freedoms.
--Mike Tate, Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, on the voter ID bill passed by Wisconsin Republican Senators in a 19-5 vote today.
Fifth Wisconsin Republican to be Recalled!
Number five is Alberta Darling (R-Milwaukee), the co-chair of the Joint Finance Committee! A little over 20,000 signatures were required; around 30,000 were collected.
Update: Volunteers and supporters can meet up here tomorrow.
Today, residents in this district— a district that overwhelmingly supported Walker in November— will be filing the signatures to recall Sheila Harsdorf, a Republican who has held office (first in the Assembly, now in the Senate) since the late ’80s.
The times they are a-changin…
